Total:

Wedelia (Sphagneticola trilobata), also called creeping daisy, is a tough, fast-spreading ground cover with glossy green lobed leaves and cheerful daisy-like yellow flowers borne almost year-round. It quickly forms a dense mat that suppresses weeds, controls soil erosion on slopes and embankments, and tolerates heat, salt, and poor soils. Reaching 15-30 cm tall, it roots wherever stems touch the ground, making it excellent for covering large areas fast. While extremely easy and rewarding, it can be aggressive, so it is best where its vigour is welcome. It flowers prolifically through India's warm seasons with minimal care.

Growing tips

In India plant in sun for maximum flowering and trim edges regularly to keep its vigorous spread in check, especially near garden beds.

Wedelia Care

Wedelia (Sphagneticola trilobata) is a low-maintenance creeping groundcover that thrives in full sun to partial shade and blooms with cheerful yellow daisy-like flowers almost year-round in Indian conditions. Water moderately to keep the soil lightly moist, and let it settle into well-draining garden soil or a container with regular potting mix. Trim it back occasionally to keep the spread tidy, and feed with a balanced fertiliser through the growing season for denser foliage and more blooms.

Wedelia Benefits & Uses

Wedelia is one of the most reliable flowering groundcovers for Indian gardens, quickly carpeting bare soil, slopes and borders to suppress weeds and reduce erosion. Its evergreen foliage and continuous yellow flowers make it popular for edging pathways, filling gaps between paving, and softening the base of taller plants. It also works well in hanging baskets and pots, where its trailing stems cascade over the sides.

Where to place Wedelia

Position Wedelia where it gets plenty of sunlight, such as an open garden bed, terrace edge, balcony railing planter or a sunny windowsill, as good light keeps flowering strong. It tolerates a range of soils and coastal or humid conditions, making it a dependable choice for gardens across much of India. Give it room to spread as a groundcover, or contain it in a pot or basket if you prefer a neater trailing display.

It flowers best in full sun but also grows well in partial shade with fewer blooms.
Is Wedelia safe for pets?
