Terminalia Bellirica

Bahera is a hardy deciduous tree that thrives in full sun and tolerates a wide range of well-drained soils once established. At the 6" grow bag stage, keep the young plant in bright light, water when the top inch of soil feels dry, and avoid waterlogging. Feed with a balanced organic fertiliser during the growing season and pot on into a larger container or open ground as roots fill the bag.

Bahera is one of the three fruits in the classic Ayurvedic formulation Triphala, valued in traditional Indian herbal practice for centuries. The tree is also grown as a shade and avenue tree, and its timber and fruit have long been used across the subcontinent. Planting a Terminalia Bellirica adds a large, native, wildlife-friendly canopy tree to gardens, farms and boundary plantings.

Give Bahera an open, sunny position with plenty of room, as it matures into a tall, spreading tree best suited to large gardens, farm edges, roadsides and reforestation plots. Choose a spot with free-draining soil and space away from buildings and drains to accommodate its eventual size. While young in the grow bag, keep it in a bright, sheltered area before transplanting to its permanent home during the monsoon or cooler months.

GardenGo stocks Bahera plants locally and delivers fast, so your grow bag arrives alive and healthy rather than stressed after days in transit. Each young tree is sourced and dispatched from nearby nurseries, and you can add pots, soil, compost and tools to the same order. That means a healthier start for your native tree and everything you need for planting delivered together.
